SPARRING is a REQUIREMENT for RELIABLE SELF-DEFENSE. However, there are rules to sparring because Sparring IS NOT a FIGHT and it has to mimic as close to a fight as possible to rollover and be effective in a real situation. Many think sparring is about "winning" a clubbing, wrestling or grappling match against another in training. That is INCORRET and here are 3 reasons why.
#1. "Fighting" during sparring boosts the chance of injuries. Injuries make people lose trust in the learning process and quit.
#2. One CAN NOT learn if he or she is afraid of getting hurt by an aggressive, uncontrolled training partner.
#3. This allow bullies and ruffians to dominate the integrity & tone of the training facility and the lessons.
So YES! You SHOULD spar with the gloves and mouthpiece in to enhance your self-defense and it should be done with safety and intelligence in mind. Sparring is a learning and building process, not a gladiator camp.
Spaces still open for SERIOUS INQUIERERS ONLY. Go to the link in the thread below NOW to learn more about how YOU can learn MMA Self-Defense for the REAL STREETS.
